About this role | Mo tenei turanga

This a fixed term, full time role until December 2026, Based in our Botany Office

Now is an exciting time at the Ministry of Education. We are working differently with the sector and communities so that our education system can deliver the best outcomes for children and whanau.

The Ministry's highest priorities are to raise achievement for all. Participation in quality early learning is a priority. This role will give you the opportunity to work collaboratively with the sector, parents, families and whanau and communities to develop local solutions that will increase participation and improve quality early learning provision.

Education Advisors take a lead role in supporting akonga, families and education sector. This requires excellent relationship management skills and an in-depth knowledge of the education sector.

Salary range: $65,001 - $78,395 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake

To be successful in this role you will have the following capabilities and competencies:

Knowledge and experience working with the NZ Curriculum.
Knowledge and experience working within the school sector.
The confidence to work across a diverse range of schools and contexts.
Strong networks and experience working with Maori medium and Pacific ECE services.
Have experience in assessing information to make objective judgments against criteria and recommending courses of action.
Have the ability to analyse complex issues to produce clear and succinct written work with strong written and oral communication skills.
Have experience in dealing with complex relationships, including influencing and negotiation skills.
A tertiary qualification in education or other relevant discipline.
The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

About our group and team | Matau ropu ake

Te Mahau | Te Tai Raro (South) is a frontline group. Our frontline groups collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services, such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services. As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level through the Directors of Education, including deep relationships with iwi and hapu. Our Directors of Education have the lead role and relationship with early learning, kohanga, school and kura, and this means they will be across all the services we provide at a local level.
