This is mid-level technical work assisting a teacher in a classroom setting and involves specific supervised sessions of instruction of students with minimal supervision to meet the needs of state facility clients in a facility of the Missouri Division of Youth Services
Employees at this level follow set lesson plans to provide classroom instruction, administer examinations, grade papers, provide one-on-one client support (e.g. tutoring), and prepare reports based on client attendance, performance, progress, and skills assimilation
Assists in the preparation of educational and teaching materials; Corrects completed work of students and assigns additional work
Prepares behavioral/participation notes and records of achievement; compiles reports and other information; Maintains inventory of educational materials, supplies, equipment, and library books; obtains replacements as required; Prepares attendance records and checks on tardy or absentee students
Observes individual students in oral-reading assignments; Conducts prepared lessons for individuals or small groups in the presence of a teacher; Supervises students using computers, tape recorders, and other teaching equipment; Tutors students in basic skills using methods and materials prescribed; Supervises students when the teacher is temporarily absent from the classroom
May be assigned to follow educational plans on a "substitute teacher" basis for limited periods under close supervision; Assists in supervising students on educational trips
Administers informal tests or periodic achievement reviews under the direction of a teacher; Receives general supervision from a professional teacher
Performs other related work as assigned

This is mid-level technical work assisting a teacher in a classroom setting and involves specific supervised sessions of instruction of students with minimal supervision to meet the needs of state facility clients in a facility of the Missouri Division of Youth Services. The following tasks are the responsibility of the Education Assistant:

(Substitutions may be allowed.)
