JOB DESCRIPTION
Star of the Sea Catholic School is seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced Educational Assistant to join our dynamic team for the 2026–2026 school year. This is a full-time position supporting students with diverse learning needs, with a particular emphasis on working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We are looking for someone who is confident, calm, and caring, with the training and experience necessary to effectively support students in both inclusive and small group learning environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one or small-group support for students with ASD and other learning or behavioural needs.
Implement IEP goals and recommended strategies in collaboration with the classroom teacher and learning support team.
Support students with self-regulation, sensory needs, and communication strategies.
Foster independence and inclusion in classroom and school-wide activities.
Monitor and document student progress and behaviour as needed.
Work collaboratively with teachers, the Learning Resource team, and support staff.
Help create a positive, safe, and inclusive environment rooted in our Catholic values.
Qualifications:
Completion of a recognized Educational Assistant or Special Education Assistant program.
Training and/or significant experience supporting students with ASD.
Knowledge of and experience using strategies such as visual schedules, social stories, sensory tools, and positive behaviour support.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A calm, flexible, and team-oriented approach.
Preferred:
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or CPI training.
Experience working in a Catholic school setting or alignment with Catholic values and mission.
