Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and student-focused Education Counsellor to join our academic support team. The Education Counsellor will be responsible for advising current and prospective students on academic programs, career paths, admissions, and personal development. This role is essential in guiding students through their educational journey and supporting them to make informed decisions that align with their goals.
Key Responsibilities:1. Student Counselling & Support
Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students on academic planning, course selection, and career guidance.
Assist students in understanding academic requirements, institutional policies, and available resources.
Identify students’ interests, strengths, and goals to offer tailored educational advice.
2. Admissions & Enrolment Guidance
Assist prospective students with the admissions process, including course information, eligibility, and documentation.
Participate in open days, orientation programs, and outreach activities to attract and support new students.
Follow up with prospective leads and ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
3. Career Development Support
Provide career counselling services, including resume building, interview preparation, and job placement assistance.
Organize seminars, workshops, and guest lectures on career opportunities and industry trends.
Maintain connections with alumni and industry professionals to support internship and placement efforts.
5. Collaboration & Development
Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and student services to ensure cohesive student support.
Stay up-to-date with trends in education and university admissions criteria.
Contribute to the development of student handbooks, academic guides, and informational materials.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Advising Skills: Strong ability to assess student needs and provide accurate, empathetic guidance.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Organizational Abilities: Ability to manage multiple student cases, workshops, and events efficiently.
Knowledge Base: Understanding of academic systems, admission procedures, and industry trends.
Problem Solving: Ability to support students in overcoming academic and personal challenges.
Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with student information systems, CRM tools, and MS Office.
Confidentiality & Ethics: High degree of professionalism and discretion in handling student information.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
5+ years of experience in academic advising or educational counselling, preferably in an institutional setting.
Certification in counseling or career guidance is an advantage.
Familiarity with local and international higher education systems.
