JOB DESCRIPTION
GirlForward is looking for an Education Program Manager to join our team full-time in Chicago. This position is focused on managing the day-to-day operations of the year-round educational programming at GirlForward, including virtual tutoring nationally, in-person tutoring in Chicago, school-based group work, and Camp GirlForward in the summer. They are responsible for recruitment, screening, training, monitoring, and supporting volunteer tutors; implementing and improving curriculum; cultivating relationships with community based organizations and school personnel; and building relationships with the community while exploring themes of identity, power, and community are integral to success in this role. This position reports directly to the Director of Programs and Operations to set programmatic vision, goals, and impact objectives.
Program Management 40%
• Manage day-to-day operations of Tutoring, including but not limited to:
• Supervise CHI In-Person and Virtual Tutoring from August-June for 480 programmatic hours on site on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30-6:30 PM.
• Design updated enrollment procedures for in-person and virtual tutoring
• Onboard and off board all volunteer tutors and interns
• Create and implement any ad-hoc curriculum
• Maintain and update all databases (volunteers, interns, tutees, etc)
• Manage day-to-day operations of the Camp GirlForward, including but not limited to:
• Teach Camp GirlForward over 4 weeks in the summer for 100 program hours
• Review and update curriculum and lesson plans as needed
• Planning and implementing all logistical elements of the program, including transportation, food, supplies, and field trips
• Enroll participants by conducting home visits
• Hire, train, and support the camp teaching team of volunteers and interns
• Coordinate and deliver programming at local schools and community based organizations, including but not limited to:
• Meeting with school personnel to identify needs and deliver programming
• Assist with student recruitment efforts
• Maintain records of attendance
• Solicit feedback from participants and partners through surveys, focus groups, etc.
• Support communication and participation of students in the Youth Advisory Board
• Make recommendations for program and curriculum improvement as needed
• Contribute to monitoring and evaluation methods to track overall programmatic impact, including surveys, focus groups, and regular information reporting
• Maintain detailed data records, including attendance, activities, curriculum, and evaluation metrics
• Fulfill relevant administrative duties
• Ensure work operates within the approved budget; provide financial records (receipts, invoices, etc.) when requested
• Seek out professional development opportunities to bolster your skill set
Volunteer Recruitment 20%
• Recruit a diverse pool of new volunteer applicants, emphasizing tutors who share lived experiences with program participants
• Propose enrollment targets and priorities and coordinate referrals from all sources
• Interview and screen applicants to ensure fit with the program
• Facilitate initial training sequence for tutors and ad-hoc in-service training as deemed necessary
• Supervise and support volunteers across all education programs, including tutors, interns, and camp volunteers
• Support and coach volunteers working with participants
• Provide 1:1 supervision support to interns and hold office hours for volunteer tutors
Participant Recruitment and Support 20%
• Build strong relationships with participants, volunteers, and connect with families through regular communication
• Identify and recruit new participants through referrals, partnerships, and community engagement
• Serve as an advocate for participants and families by sharing resources and referrals for services outside of education
• Ensure satisfaction that leads to high levels of retention
• Assess, screen, and monitor clinical and safety concerns and provide crisis management
Community Partnerships 10%
• Strengthen relationships with schools, resettlement agencies, and other community partners
• Build new partnerships with community agencies and leaders
• Represent GirlForward at community partner events
Leadership + Collaborative Work 10%
• Collaborate with the Director of Programs and Operations to develop new programs and design creative solutions for staffing and program needs
• Supervise the work of interns as needed
• Support the overall strategy and vision of the organization and contribute to cross-functional work, including supervision of the Safe Space Center as needed
• Participate in organization-wide events and contribute to the organization's fundraising culture
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of GirlForward, especially believing in the transformative power of education
Qualifications
• 2 years of relevant experience building relationships with youth (ages 14-22) and/or immigrants and refugees.
• A Bachelor's degree in Education is preferred but not required. Experience in the nonprofit sector, education, mentoring, or youth development is a plus.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience securing community partnerships for programs, fundraising, or events is preferred
• One to two years of relevant experience securing community partnerships for volunteer and recruitment management is preferred
• Candidates with traditional or non-traditional teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply!
• Fluency in English is required; the ability to communicate in Arabic, Burmese, Pashto, Dari, Spanish or Swahili is a definite plus

• Be able to work some flexible hours (e.g., evenings and occasional weekends)

SALARY & BENEFITS
• Salary Range $48,000- $52,000

• Hybrid Remote and In-person work. 60% of the work week is in person at our beautiful program center in Rogers Park

Programming hours during the school year are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and in the summer, during the 4-weeks of Summer camp on Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Outside of those requirements, this role can work remotely 2 days per week and as needed.
