The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment supporting the Royal Commission Reform Taskforce (the Taskforce), which has been established to lead Defence’s response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide Final Report and recommendations.

This role forms part of the leadership group in the Human Resources team. We are looking for a highly motivated, skilled, and client-focused professional who has strong leadership skills and experience. The Team Leader Human Resources plays a key role in managing a small team to deliver HR policy and advice, support recruitment activity, interpret Defence employment frameworks for both ADF and APS employees, and support the Taskforce Executive.

As Team Leader Human Resources, you will be responsible for the delivery of a variety of HR functions based on the Taskforce’s priorities and operational requirements. Your responsibilities may include the following:

Working collaboratively with the wider Corporate Governance Directorate and Taskforce Executive to effectively execute HR services, including the provision of expert advice and support on policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and contemporary HR best practices.
Updating and maintaining the Taskforce Organisational structure, providing regular updates and reporting to Taskforce Executive on staffing and workforce figures.
Managing labour hire contracts on behalf of the Taskforce.
Supporting the Taskforce Executive in their management of the ADF workforce, including coordinating ADF Welfare Boards and overseeing secretariat responsibilities.
Partnering with Defence Recruitment to manage end-to-end recruitment activities for the Taskforce including; support on recruitment and selection processes, liaising with Delegates and panel members and overseeing completion of recruitment gateways and on boarding.
Coordinating and supporting the Taskforce’s Honours and Awards Board including liaising with Directors and overseeing secretariat responsibilities.
Managing the delivery of the Taskforce induction program.
Performing a range of office management activities including HR administrative support and responding to enquiries in a timely manner.
Lead by example, embodying Defence’s values and the inclusive, positive culture to which we aspire.

About our Team
The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide - Taskforce (RCDVS-TF) was established July 2021. The Royal Commission is due to submit its Final Report to Government in September 2026 and the RCDVS-TF will shift its focus toward coordinating the implementation of Government agreed recommendations. The position advertised will be in the Royal Commission Reform Taskforce and will support the implementation of the Reform Program.

The Corporate Governance Directorate, which encompasses two small teams, provides critical corporate support services to all members within the Taskforce, from both a Finance and a Human Resources perspective. The two teams operate in a collaborative space, maintaining high levels of customer service and providing outcomes and advice to a diverse and joint workforce of APS, Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and Reservists, legal secondees and labour hire contractors.
