The Role
The position is responsible for supporting the DGESD in daily operations of a large and dynamic Branch. The role includes advising and supporting DGESD on a broad range of very complex and diverse issues in the delivery of services to support base capability. A key task during 2026-25 will be to support the Base Services Transformation program to successfully transition the Base Services contracts through to the next decade. Duties include:

Represent DGESD & Defence at internal & external forums/committees, attend/conduct meetings and high-level discussions with senior leaders, when required act as the DGESD making decisions on DG's behalf.
Maintain oversight of Base Services Contracts, working with Industry Partners to deliver services across the Defence Estate. The contracts are worth approximately $2.7bn per annum requiring diligent management to achieve best value for money for the Commonwealth.
Work with Defence Finance Group and Defence People Group Business Partners.

This position is classified as having a work value commensurate with EL2.1 and the salary range of $161,522 - $1+2,221. Positions with a work value at EL2.1 are reviewed annually and salary may increase or decrease in accordance with the provisions of the Defence Enterprise Agreement. Applicants should familiarise themselves with the relevant provisions of the Defence Enterprise Agreement if considering applying for this position. Should an annual review determine that work is no longer available at the higher work value, the employee’s classification and salary will be decreased to the lower level work value and salary within the EL 2 classification range.

About our Team
Estate Service Delivery (ESD) Branch provides a national role for Service Delivery Division (SDD) to manage the delivery of Base Services. This requires engagement between Defence customers and the BSC to provide national product and service management for the following services; access control and protective services, national pass office, joint operations support, and training area management. In support of estate logistics, ESD provides transport and airfield services, airfield operations support, rescue and firefighting. hospitality and catering, laundry and dry cleaning, housekeeping, base amenities, sport and recreation, fresh rations, cleaning and waste management, pest and vermin, land management, and energy services, estate upkeep and management of estate works, base services management, integration and coordination and the base services support call centre.
