Position: Elementary School Hebrew Teacher

Description: Full-time Position

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a community Jewish day school, seeks an energetic, passionate, and flexible elementary school Hebrew teacher to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will be professional and collaborative, possess personal integrity, and be enthusiastic about participating in our community of lifelong learners.

Responsibilities will include:

Teach four small Hebrew groups

Work cooperatively and supportively with grade-level teachers and the Hebrew Studies Coordinator

A successful candidate will have:

Teacher training required; Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential desired

Passion for and experience teaching Hebrew to elementary students

Skill or comfort level with Hebrew language instruction

Comfort with technology and readiness to learn and utilize digital platforms

Flexibility to work in multiple settings and shared facilities

Enthusiasm for ongoing professional development

Desire to engender a love of learning as well as a caring, professional demeanor

Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with people of all levels in a professional and constructive manner

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School is a TK through eighth-grade Jewish community day school. Its 76,000 square-foot facility includes a gymnasium/auditorium/performance space, a library, a lunch pavilion, a Maker/Tech Lab, elementary and middle school science labs, an art studio, a music classroom, playgrounds, and an athletic field. The school’s values of tradition, character, and community have been its foundation for over forty-five years, and they continue to infuse students, faculty, staff, and parents with a shared vision and meaningful purpose. Our academic program emphasizes the development of thinking, problem-solving, and creative self-expression, which reaches far beyond the rote mastery of basic skills. Modern approaches to teaching and learning, using technology, project-based learning, and an overall emphasis on student attainment of 21st-century skills are balanced with the incorporation of ancient traditions and values that are hallmarks of Judaism. The teaching of resilience, the overcoming of adversity, and the development of confidence in one’s abilities are emphasized, bearing in mind age-appropriate capabilities and individual student progress.
