About the role | Ko te mahi nei

You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring Christchurch is ready to respond to emergencies swiftly and effectively. You'll lead civil defence training programmes, maintain critical emergency resources and systems, and support our Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) during real-world events.

This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same—one day you'll be delivering training, the next you'll be coordinating emergency systems, and the next you could be a key player in a live emergency response.

You'll also be:

Championing emergency management capability across Council and partner organisations
Leading the development and delivery of training and exercises
Maintaining emergency communications and IT systems and resources
Coordinating regular operational readiness activities with internal and external stakeholders
Act as an on-call Duty Officer to ensure Christchurch can quickly respond to emergencies
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

A tertiary qualification in emergency management or *equivalent experience (*At least 5 years' experience in the emergency management sector)
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Strong project management and problem-solving skills
Experience in adult education or NZQA training (desirable)
GIS and IT systems experience (advantageous)
Self-sufficient in identifying opportunities to improve operational readiness capability, and able to plan and execute the tasks needed to deliver these
Flexibility to be available on a 24/7 rostered basis

Hours of work - Permanent Fulltime
Location - This position is primarily based at the Justice & Emergency Precinct - 20 Litchfield Street - Christchurch
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
