ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Phoenix Fire Department's Emergency Transportation Services (ETS) team is seeking an ETS Billing Clerk to join our customer-focused billing operation. This position is responsible for supporting the ambulance billing process and providing excellent service to patients, hospitals, and insurance companies. ETS Billing Clerks review and process ambulance transport tickets for accuracy, update individual accounts, and ensure compliance with federal and state confidentiality laws.
The role requires strong attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to work within established timelines to process daily batches efficiently. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable with data entry, and is eager to learn and grow within a mission-driven team that supports emergency medical services for the City of Phoenix.
Responsibilities for this position include and are not limited to:
Search for and verify patient information (name, address, phone, etc.).
Verify insurance eligibility.
Prepare and reconcile daily billing batches.
Answer phone calls from patients, insurances, and other associated parties.
Answer billing questions; resolve billing issues; obtain and update patient and insurance information.
Review information from documents received from hospitals and patients, and update accounts accordingly.
Receive and process credit card payments (phone / mail).
This is an in-person position and enjoys a 40-hour Monday through Friday work schedule.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Strong communication skills.
Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish preferred.
SALARY
Pay Range: $21.02 to 31.06 per hour.
Hiring Range: $21.02 to $28.17 per hour.

Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 338. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of bookkeeping and clerical accounting experience, including experience in preparing financial reports;
Supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and accounting.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Experience using Respond billing software.
