Description
Summary of Position:
The Employment Services Counsellor supports English‑speaking job seekers through both assisted and unassisted employment services. Reporting to the Adult Development Department Director and the Employment Coordinator, the Counsellor provides individualized, trauma‑informed coaching to help clients set goals, prepare for job searches, and access specialized community resources.
The role includes one‑on‑one coaching, facilitation of a small employment computer lab, and the development of formal referral pathways with partners such as the CIUSSS, legal aid offices, housing services, and literacy organizations. Light‑touch job‑retention support is provided after clients secure employment or training.
Responsibilities:
Individual Coaching and Case Management: Provide individualized employment coaching and case management for English-speaking job seekers, tailored to each client’s needs and goals
Employment Computer Lab: Facilitate unassisted access to the employment computer lab for walk-in clients, offering orientation and light support as needed.
Post-Placement & Retention Coaching: Provide light-touch follow-up support to clients who have secured employment or training to promote retention and stability.
Employability Workshops: Deliver small-group workshops focused on job-search skills such as résumé writing, interview techniques, communication in the workplace, and understanding workplace culture. Facilitation of digital literacy skills individually and in groups.
Client Outcomes & Satisfaction Tracking: Collect, track, and analyze outcome data and client satisfaction feedback to measure progress and inform program improvements
Formalize Referral Pathways: Establish referral agreements or Memoranda of Understanding with the CIUSSS, local legal aid offices, housing services, and literacy and mental health organizations to ensure coordinated and comprehensive client support
Referrals to Specialized Services: Refer clients to community partners for additional employment services, as well as mental health, literacy, housing, legal, other specialized supports beyond
Networking & Career Events: Co-host career-connection events, such as mock interviews and employer meetups, to link job seekers directly with local employers and training opportunities.
Community Outreach: Promote awareness of employment services and access points through outreach initiatives in Little Burgundy and neighbouring communities.
Education
Bachelor degree (or) College degree with relevant experience
Experience in employability, group animation, adult teaching or helping relationship
Strong digital literacy skills
Job Conditions
1-year contract with possibility of renewal
35 hours per week, some flexibility required
Salary range: $25 - $28 per hour
