In this role, you will develop strong relationships with brokers and take on a mentoring role, providing technical guidance on key coverage issues and forms. Our Energy group is dedicated to delivering comprehensive risk solutions, risk engineering services, and claims support tailored to clients in the oil and gas, petrochemical, natural resources, mining, and power generation industries worldwide.
Your Responsibilities:
• Champion customer needs by understanding their risks and providing tailored insurance solutions.
• Utilize a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Leverage risk insights, data, and models to make informed decisions during the sales process.
• Ensure adherence to underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, and regulations.
• Work on complex assignments while maintaining accuracy and compliance within broad limits.
• Collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and business needs.
• Offer guidance to junior team members when necessary.
• Foster a sales-oriented culture by supporting agents, brokers, and customers.
• Proactively seek opportunities for renewals and new accounts.
• Conduct thorough assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to align with organizational goals and viable business opportunities.
• Engage in purposeful visits to brokers/customers to strengthen relationships.
This role will be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level, depending on the applicant's experience and qualifications.
Basic Qualifications for Underwriting Specialist:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing roles in the Energy and Property Insurance industry, OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support, OR
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program with an Associate Degree and 1+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, OR
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program with an Associate Degree and 4+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support, AND
• Knowledge of relevant lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines.
• Understanding of time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Basic Qualifications for Executive Underwriter:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing roles, OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support, AND
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in managing time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Ability to thrive in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications for Both Levels:
• Bachelor's Degree.
• Knowledge of Energy, Power Generation, Oil/Gas/Chemical operations is highly desirable.
• Established relationships with brokers in the energy sector.
• Exceptional skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and negotiating.
• A sales execution-oriented mindset.
Your compensation at Zurich reflects your role, location, skills, and experience, in accordance with local laws for fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your salary expectations exceed the listed range, we still encourage you to apply; your unique background is important to us. The combined salary range for this position varies nationally, with the Underwriting Specialist range being $79,600.00 - $130,400.00 and the Executive Underwriter range being $105,300.00 - $172,400.00. Additionally, the Underwriting Specialist is eligible for a short-term incentive bonus of 10%, while the Executive Underwriter is eligible for a Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus of 30%.
