Who We Are
In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a yard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role
Reporting to Area Manager, this is a full time, fixed term contract ending 12th June 2026 within the Statutory Flood Development Assessment. As the Engineer specialising in flood modelling and hydraulics, you will be responsible for providing technical flood and drainage engineering expertise to assess statutory development applications referred to Melbourne Water.

Working collaboratively within a team, the Engineer contributes to planning, subdivision, and building assessments including complex urban developments to ensure safe and flood resilient development outcomes.

This is a technically specific development flood engineering role where statutory urban planning and development engineering for water knowledge is required to achieve performance standards and succeed.

Analyse and interpret hydrologic and hydraulic models to ensure development proposals meet flood resilience and drainage standards, such as the DELWP 2019 Guidelines for Development in Flood Affected Areas and Melbourne Water policy.
Produce detailed technical memos to make decisions and recommendations under delegation; escalate complex matters as needed.
Maintain accurate records and manage workload to meet internal KPIs and statutory timeframes.
About You
Experience in building and interrogating hydrological and hydraulic flood models in software such as RORB, HECRAS and/or TUFLOW
Experience in undertaking flood impact assessments within the urban development sector. Working knowledge of the Guidelines for Development in Flood Affected Areas DELWP 2019 and ARR2019 is preferred.
Ability to ensure agreed targets are achieved, to manage time effectively, co-ordinate multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team environment.
