About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to guide a dynamic team in creating and scaling the essential secure compute layer of Confluent Cloud. Your team will work on critical building blocks such as isolation, identity, and networking, advocating for the secure execution of untrusted code and data processing across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Your leadership will be instrumental as we expand our product offerings, making this secure infrastructure vital to attracting and retaining our multi-tenant clients in regulated industries. You will help in producing top-notch platform features and a container-based runtime, ensuring outstanding quality, security, and reliability across numerous global clusters.
What You Will Do:
• Define and lead the vision and multi-year strategy for the Secure Compute Platform, aligning with the company’s growth objectives.
• Provide direct technical leadership in distributed systems, Kubernetes, and container runtimes to ensure unparalleled security and scalability.
• Collaborate with Product, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to establish architectural standards and deliver comprehensive solutions.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence and ownership in a highly capable and inclusive engineering team, mentoring a group of 6-8 engineers.
• Encourage the use of AI-driven tools and techniques to boost team efficiency and operational productivity.
• Oversee the development of crucial platform components, such as isolation, identity, and networking, addressing the needs of a global, multi-tenant customer base.
• Promote high operational standards and observability, guaranteeing reliability and performance across thousands of global clusters.
• Influence platform adoption while ensuring that secure compute interfaces meet the needs of developer-centric users.
What You Will Bring:
• A minimum of 10 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a management role.
• Proven experience in designing and building resilient systems at scale using major cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), with a strong ability to anticipate challenges and develop robust technical foundations.
• Deep technical knowledge in constructing and scaling secure, high-performance distributed systems, with expertise in Kubernetes, container internals, and lower-level systems.
• Familiarity with API governance frameworks and best practices for maintaining API security, consistency, and reliability.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of positively influencing teams and management.
• Experience in recruiting top talent, fostering motivation, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
• Track record of delivering features on time with a proactive approach and excellent prioritization abilities.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
