Position Overview
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory, day and boarding high school whose mission is to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity, and truth. We seek a full-time English teacher with a strong background in English literature and demonstrated excellence in writing instruction.
This position includes active participation in the school community and collaboration on interdisciplinary initiatives. The ideal candidate will be experienced in integrating instructional technology into teaching and learning and open to exploring emerging tools that enhance student engagement. All faculty members participate in co-curricular programs and share a commitment to a holistic approach to educating young women.
Essential Job Functions
Teach five blocks of English
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
Provide timely, ongoing, and meaningful feedback to students, including written comments at the end of grading periods
Encourage and monitor individual student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
Demonstrate excellent classroom management and instructional leadership
Assign and grade classwork, homework, assessments, and projects in a timely manner and maintain accurate grade records
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings
Communicate proactively and consistently with students and families regarding student growth and development
Collaborate with grade-level counselors to support student success
Foster a learner-centered classroom environment that challenges students to apply knowledge to real-world contexts
Serve as a reflective educator who models intellectual curiosity
Actively engage in the school’s culture of inquiry and pursue professional development opportunities
Support the mission of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and contribute to an environment that nurtures faith, integrity, and truth
Demonstrate a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive classroom practices
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Department Chair
Requirements
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related discipline
Minimum of one year of teaching experience in English, humanities, or a closely related subject
Strong background in English literature and writing instruction
Experience integrating instructional technology into teaching and learning
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Preferred:
High school teaching experience
Experience teaching multiple course levels (e.g., survey, honors, AP, or elective English courses)
Experience in an all-girls educational environment
Familiarity with innovative instructional approaches such as project-based learning, inquiry-based discussion, writing workshop models, interdisciplinary curriculum design, and culturally responsive pedagogy
Current teaching certification
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Ability to stand for 50% or more of the workday
Sight, hearing, and speech sufficient for effective communication with students, families, and colleagues
Ability to lift up to 10 pounds without assistance

Compensation & Benefits
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy offers a competitive salary of $61,700.00 – $92,000.00, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including:

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
