USBP is urgently hiring for full-time, entry-level positions in federal law enforcement. Your background in public safety, military, or law enforcement could be your ticket to joining an elite team dedicated to protecting the nation. Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Officers ranges from GL-5/GL-7 $51,632 to $92,219 per year. Officers are eligible for extensive federal benefits including health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in a retirement savings plan similar to a ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentives
New officers may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives based on specific criteria. The first $10,000 is distributed after successfully completing training at the Border Patrol Academy, and an additional $10,000 is available for taking a position in prioritized areas.
Retention Incentives
Furthermore, you may qualify for up to $40,000 over your first four years of service as a retention incentive.
Duty Assignments
Important Note: Assignments will include the Southwest Border and other mission-critical locations. Relocation may be necessary. Your selected location may determine your pay rate, as locality pay varies across federal law enforcement positions.
As a career ladder position, this role allows for grade level progression from GL-5 to GL-12, with promotions based on performance milestones.
Key Responsibilities
As a Border Patrol Officer, you will join a workforce dedicated to safeguarding our borders and enhancing national security. Your typical responsibilities may include:
• Identifying and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers through surveillance and observation.
• Following physical evidence of illegal entries and contraband.
• Conducting checks on farms, buildings, and vehicles.
• Patrolling borders utilizing various government-provided assets.
Qualifications
To qualify for the GL-5 grade level, you must meet one of the following:
Experience: One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making under pressure and the ability to learn regulations and techniques.
Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Combination of Experience and Education: A mix of relevant experience and education will be considered.
To qualify for the GL-7 grade level, you must meet one of the following:
Experience: One year of specialized work experience indicating the ability to make sound judgments, effectively engage in law enforcement matters, and analyze information rapidly.
Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or a year of graduate-level education in a related field.
Note: Veterans and individuals with previous law enforcement or military experience may qualify for higher grade levels.
Other Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Residency: Must have been a primary resident of the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: Must be appointed before the age of 40 or be exempt under specific conditions.
