Job Description
Compensation
• $30.00/hour, with overtime paid at 1.5x ($45.00/hour) for hours worked over 40 per week.
Work Structure
This role is primarily field-based, with travel to various project sites throughout the Chicago metro area. Some remote office work may be required. Occasional Saturday work may be needed depending on project demands, and daily hours may exceed 8 hours.
All travel time—from home/office to project sites and back (“portal-to-portal”)—is considered paid work time. Mileage reimbursement is provided at the current federal rate (72.5 cents/mile).
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct environmental inspections and monitoring at Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) project sites
• Complete and submit daily environmental compliance documentation required by IDOT
• Communicate regularly with IDOT Resident Engineers and construction personnel regarding environmental compliance
• Perform environmental sampling (soil and water) and coordinate delivery to laboratories for analysis
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering (required)
• 0–3 years of relevant environmental field experience
• Ability to work outdoors in varying field/weather and active construction site conditions
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet daily reporting deadlines
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Valid driver’s license
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (preferred)
