Your Role:

This role is based in the Metropolitain Regional Office (Nundah) and the Brisbane Children's Court. As the Court Liaison Officer (Brisbane Children's Court) you will build strong relationships with young people and families involved in the Youth Justice System to assess their education needs and support their reintegration into an appropriate education pathway. The CLO acts as a conduit in finding appropriate educational pathways in liaison with Youth Justice, areas of the Department of Education such as Youth Engagement Hubs, and other relevant stakeholders.

The CLO attends court (ie on call-over and sentencing days) and will actively seek out and engage with the identified young people and their families. The CLO's are also called upon to provide Magistrates with current education enrolment information to help guide sentencing and bail conditions.

Responsibilities include:

As the CLO you will:

* Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including Magistrates, Judges, Youth Justice Services, legal representatives, police, Community Justice Groups and community organisations, providing a departmental perspective.

* Refer young people, including those with minimal required intervention, and those with high complex educational needs, to avenues for direct support/advocacy.

* Develop an education plan to support a young person to transition into a suitable educational pathway in consultation with the young person, their family, Child Safety, Youth Justice and other relevant stakeholders.

* Ensure privacy and confidentiality requirements are adhered to so that information obtained from young people and families and departmental information systems is used within legislative and policy requirements.

* Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assist with young people's re-engagement in educational pathways.
