Galveston County Health District is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Epi Data Intake Specialist to join our Epidemiology team. In this role, you will support disease surveillance activities by managing epidemiological data, processing reportable conditions, and preparing routine and special surveillance reports in collaboration with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

What You'll Do:
Manage all epidemiology disease databases
Perform data entry for epidemiological investigations into NBS and other electronic systems
Extract, tabulate, and prepare routine and special disease surveillance reports requested by DSHS
Obtain and review case report documents for appropriate processing, distribution, and data entry
Coordinate receipt, assessment, and distribution of cases reported by mail, fax, phone, and electronic lab reports (ELRs)
Determine jurisdiction of NBS cases and transfer cases to appropriate public health jurisdictions
Contact healthcare providers to verify and confirm laboratory and case report information
Pull and review medical charts to verify data accuracy
Generate standard reports from NBS and other disease surveillance systems
Assist in creating charts and graphs to monitor disease trends
Review lead laboratory reports, enter positive results into the lead database, and record sharps contamination reports for submission to DSHS
Fax or mail referral reports to other public health jurisdictions
Participate in assigned outbreak investigation activities
Verify and update contact information as needed
When needed, provide clerical support to Epidemiology Services and Public Health Preparedness, including processing mail, filing, taking minutes, updating plans, creating requisitions, protocols, and guidelines; attending meetings and PHEP trainings; assisting with PHEP drills and exercises
Work the phone bank during real-world public health events
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
What We're Looking For:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
Minimum of two years of experience tracking, sorting, tabulating, and managing disease data in a public health department or healthcare facility
Minimum of one year of experience reviewing and interpreting reportable health condition lab reports and/or medical records
Strong typing and data entry skills
Ability to manage incoming data using multiple data programs
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
Ability to provide spur-of-the-moment transportation without reliance on organization vehicles
Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain one; DMV check may be required
Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
Must comply with GCHD Immunization Policy and ICS training requirements
Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
Equivalent education and experience may be considered
