This is a hands-on, physically demanding, travel-heavy role involving long hours during peak periods, work in all weather conditions, and significant responsibility for coordinating equipment, supervising crews and delivering high-pressure event builds across Australia.
This role is not suitable for someone seeking a standard Monday–Friday job.
About the Role
The Equipment Hire Manager is responsible for the hire, preparation, dispatch, installation and return of all event infrastructure equipment. The role involves supervising installation crews, interpreting plans, maintaining equipment, coordinating logistics, managing yard operations, and travelling extensively to support installations at event sites.
This position involves:
Long and irregular hours during event periods
Early starts, late finishes and weekend work as required
Working outdoors in all weather conditions
Heavy lifting and manual labour
Frequent travel across Victoria and interstate, including overnight stays
Key Responsibilities
Oversee equipment hire operations, including yard organisation, stock control and maintenance
Travel to various sites to supervise and support equipment installations and pack-downs
Lead crews assembling tents, marquees, big tops, staging and temporary event structures
Read and interpret plans, site layouts and structural drawings
Coordinate bookings, equipment allocation, transport logistics and job scheduling
Ensure equipment safety checks, maintenance and compliance are carried out
Perform hands-on physical work including loading/unloading equipment and preparing gear
Liaise with clients, site supervisors and internal teams to ensure project requirements are met
Skills & Experience Required
Strong background in equipment hire, event infrastructure, staging, construction or similar
Experience supervising crews in event, staging, construction or rigging environments
Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
Comfortable working long hours and travelling frequently
Strong logistical, organisational and planning skills
Ability to read and interpret installation plans or site drawings
Valid driver’s licence
Highly Regarded Experience (Preferred)
Experience with event infrastructure, such as:
Tents, marquees, clearspan structures or big tops
Staging systems, seating banks or temporary grandstands
Large temporary outdoor structures
Equipment hire operations in events or construction support
Supervising crews delivering complex on-site builds
