With a student enrolment in excess of 1450, and located on 5.4 hectares in the City of Banyule, Viewbank College provides outstanding educational opportunities to families in Rosanna, Heidelberg, Viewbank and surrounding suburbs. The College is academically focused and has a high level of participation in other curriculum areas such as Music and the Visual & Performing Arts.

The College has developed a strong and tangible ethos based around hard work, respect for learning, the rights of others and the pursuit of success. Through the very successful student leadership program, the house program and a series of large general assemblies, the College promotes involvement, student participation and service to others. The College's sporting teams are regularly successful right through to the state level. The College production, the debating program, public speaking and the previously mentioned Music Program and the Social Action group are ways students can become involved and inspired.

The College Curriculum is a standard academic curriculum with VET subjects offered off campus. The College offers German and Japanese through to Year 12 and Music Performance is a strong VCE subject. The Instrumental Music program has 300 active participants and the College employs 20 instrumental music teachers. The College has a much sought after Enhanced Accelerated Program and a stratified Maths program at Year 10. The College is starting to pilot a modified VCAL program.

The College maintains buildings and facilities to a high standard with well - equipped classrooms and staff rooms, complete with data projector facilities. A 1:1 laptop program was introduced in 2015 and has been expanded to include all year levels. Other valuable facilities include a well-resourced library and our new 420 seat Performing Arts Centre and STEAM Complex which opened in July 2018.
Selection Criteria

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes. Typically, this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the co-ordination of a work area under the direction of the principal or a manager.
Assisting teachers, within an educational program, by undertaking specific support tasks or the coordination of the support function.
Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, or other specialised student/teacher support roles (e.g. enrolled nurses performing the role as described in schedule 3). These roles require specific qualifications and/or training, including roles where further training must be undertaken from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose, for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.
Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. Routine technical support in libraries, science, and information technology would be typical examples.
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
Responsibilities

At Viewbank College, the responsibilities of the Library Resource Officer are :
Maintain a welcoming space
Develop and implement library displays to promote engagement with the library space
Assist staff and students to access library resources
Provide print, electronic resources for curriculum areas when necessary or as required
Manage procedures relating to the maintenance of library resource material and collections.
Manage the library reception area
Maintain circulation of the collection and library records
Maintain magazine database and periodicals and distribute as required
Evaluate and select equipment and materials and make recommendations to senior management
Develop procedures relating to the use and maintenance of the collection
Maintain booklist and text resources for staff
Shelving and ordering of the collection
Provide training to new staff and assist volunteers
Repair and maintenance of library items
Order library supplies as required
Assist in the supervision of visitors to the library as required
Liaise with the Student Support Leaders re the Rob Mossop Collection
Technical Support
Maintain the Library Computer system and liaise with IT and software help desk as required
Assist students in printer usage
Co-ordinate the interface between the library management system (Oliver) and Compass
Update data base
Other (including photos and archives)
Co-ordinate College Captain Photos annually
Archival Records/Photography and provide for reunions
Updating Honour Boards
Scan and archive awards, certificates and sporting achievements
Maintain Events file
Prepare photo presentations as required
Take photos at events where required and distribute
Take new staff photos and co-ordinate compass card
Actively involved in and up to date in current knowledge of Displan procedures
Other duties as directed by the Principal
