Project Overview:
Bechtel is providing project and contract management services to Western Power on the Clean Energy Link Project. This project will expand the transmission network to connect new renewable generation sources. The scope will consist of construction of new 330kV and 132kV terminals and associated transmission infrastructure as well upgrade and modification works to existing terminal stations. We are looking for people to join us on this exciting capital works program within an integrated team with our customer.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Project SHE Manager, this role, working within the integrated customer team, will primarily be based in the Perth main office and will travel to site as required monitoring the safety and environmental performance of the contractors. The role will:
Collate and analyse safety, health and environmental data to support reporting requirements.
Undertake occasional site visits to conduct inspections and engage with field teams, which may require local business travel.
Lead by example and actively engage with the contractors workforce during site inspections
Learn from incidents and share lessons across teams
Monitor SHE performance and address both positive and negative trends
Participate in workshops, plan reviews and site visits focused on critical risk controls
Support contractor led initiatives that contribute to safety culture
Ensure timely incident reporting and action closeout
Support a proactive and positive safety and environmental culture
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”
Major Responsibilities:
Coordinates a wide variety of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) disciplines to facilitate implementation of the projects SHE program and SHE Management System, including aiding compliance with the project's SHE standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments
Supports the preparation and delivery of SHE reporting, including data validation, analysis of trends, and contribution to internal and client reporting requirements
Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities Maintains SHE databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions
Performs statistical analysis of SHE data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations accordingly
Identifies and coordinates unique software systems and electronic innovation used by SHE personnel
Leads teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to SHE issues
Prepares communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention
Coordinates incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports
Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential
Participates in and may lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs
Coordinates SHE recognition programs
Researches moderately complex issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice
Provides support to Project SHE Manager and all SHE disciplines
Education and Experience Requirements:
Typically requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Previous experience working within a client's organisation as part of an integrated project team
A strong site-based background in civil and electrical construction, ideally with exposure to HV/substation infrastructure
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills suited to both contractor engagement and stakeholder reporting
Working knowledge of Western Australian safety legislation, critical risk controls, and permit-to-work systems
The ability to work autonomously, influence contractor teams, and navigate complex stakeholder environments
Familiarity with digital platforms such as Aconex and relevant HSEQ systems
The successful candidate will bring practical site experience, a sound understanding of risk-based safety and critical controls, and the confidence to engage constructively with contractor teams while upholding regulatory expectations. They will operate with resilience, professionalism, and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
