About Kormos LLP:
Kormos LLP is a boutique law firm, specializing in estate planning & litigation, business law services (starting Summer, 2026), and family law (launching Fall, 2026).
Our team is recognized for their tailored approach to advising and representing clients in their business and family wealth transition planning, including representation in litigation if disputes arise.
Description:
We are seeking a Associate Estate Lawyer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of post-bar experience and proficiency in a second language, to better serve our diverse and multicultural clientele.
The Associate Estate Lawyer will bring an established expertise and at least a partial list of select clientele and will, at Kormos LLP, collaborate closely with our senior lawyers to provide refined legal counsel and support to our boutique clients (many of whom are referred by their wealth advisors and financial institutions) on their estate & trust planning, probate, and estate/trust administration matters. Ideally, the Associate Estate Lawyer will also be experienced in supporting experienced litigation counsel.
Responsibilities:
· Review and analyze our unique clientele’s existing estate plans to identify potential issues and recommend solutions.
· Collaborate with senior lawyers in drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, personal directives, asset-based transaction documentation, and other estate planning documents.
· Support our family law and business law teams, and actively collaborate with them to advance our clientele’s unique needs.
· Conduct legal research on estate planning issues to ensure quality, compliance and accuracy in our strategic advisory services to our clients.
· Support our litigation team, where litigation arises.
· Communicate with clients to understand their individual needs and goals.
· Empathically support our clientele during the challenging period after a loved one passes away, including by consulting them for intake and onboarding, preparing and filing legal documents for probate proceedings and estate/trust administration.
· Collaborate with senior lawyers to develop effective future-focused strategies to minimize taxes and maximizing asset growth and protection, amongst other common client considerations.
· Assist in resolving estate-related disputes, including power of attorney or personal directive disputes, financial accountability disputes, contested wills/trusts, and general estate litigation.
· Maintain organized and accurate client files and documentation.
· Diligently represent our clientele’s interests in court attendances, and mediation or arbitration, in collaboration with a senior lawyer where required.
· Actively and accountably follow up and advance matters assigned to you, aided by our technology support systems. As an associate lawyer, you will take responsibility for your deadlines and meet them without prompting but with adequate support and mentorship available to you.
Qualifications:
· Strong commitment to your personal growth, curiosity, collaboration, and diplomacy.
· Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
· Admission to the bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
· Commitment to developing and maintaining our clientele’s trust and confidences.
· 2-4 years of post-call experience in estate planning, probate, or related areas of law, ideally also with some litigation experience and passion for active learning.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Writing samples will be required of all applicants before interviewing.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a boutique-service firm.
· Superb attention to detail and accuracy in legal documentation and research.
· Proficiency in a second language and cross-cultural competence.
Our Interview Process:
We require all applicants to provide references, writing samples, and personal information (including verified Meyers Briggs and Clifton Strengths test results) before interviewing.
