The Draftsperson & Estimator will play a key role in the development of technical drawings and cost estimations for engineering projects. This position requires both the ability to create detailed and accurate drafts using CAD software, as well as the skill to estimate costs for materials, labour, and other resources required for various projects. The role is essential in ensuring that designs are not only feasible but also cost-effective, meeting both client and project requirements.
Core Responsibility
Drafting and Design:
Develop detailed designs and drafts for fabrication requests and engineering projects
Prepare detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and schematics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other relevant tools).
Work closely with boilermakers and mechanics and other stakeholders to develop and refine designs based on project requirements and specifications
Cost Estimation:
Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for materials, labour, and equipment needed for the successful completion of engineering projects.
Estimate and quote for site services in coordination with project requirements and labour, equipment, and material needs
Identify cost-effective solutions, including alternative materials and construction methods, to ensure that projects remain within budget.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Interpret client requests and prepare preliminary sketches, working drawings, and specifications.
Liaise with clients, project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure designs meet client expectations, are technically sound, and are within budget.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, local regulations, and company policies throughout the drafting and estimating processes.
Quality Control and Documentation:
Ensure the accuracy and quality of all drawings, designs, and cost estimates.
Maintain organized project documentation, including drawing revisions, cost breakdowns, and correspondence related to design and estimation.
Conduct site visits as required to gather information for designs, measurements, and cost assessments.
Other Duties
Fulfil other duties as required by management and other department personnel as requested/required.
What we looking for
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, drafting, or a related field, or certificate III in Engineering & Drafting
Experience: ideally of 2 years in a similar role, or graduates are welcome to apply.
Skills: Experience in AutoCAD and mechanical drawings; Experience with 3D designs, CNC programming and DXF packages is desirable. Australian driver’s license C class.
