Responsibilities

Business Media is looking for an Event Director to work closely with the Editorial Director, Editor-in-Chief, and Events team to strategize and oversee the thematic development of the brand’s live, in-person events and sessions, including the flagship Inc

5000 conference, as well as other virtual and in-person events

The Event Director will manage the programming direction, format, themes, topics, and identify the best possible speakers

The Event Director will report to the Editorial Director and collaborate with them and the Editor-in-Chief to elevate the quality of conversations at Inc

Business Media events and panels

They will identify and research potential panel topics and bring fresh, innovative ideas to enhance event programming, including experiential elements, attendee experiences, and giveaways

This role will also work with the Editorial Director to explore partnership and sponsorship opportunities with potential venues

In consultation with the Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief, identify, secure, and book high-profile talent early for year-round Inc. events, and manage all talent needs

Schedule all sessions and distribute, execute, and collect all speaker agreements, packets, and documentation

Collaborate with the Inc

editorial team to structure sessions and inform sales, editorial, events, moderators, and speakers of the session structure

Write necessary session copy, comments, and questions for the conference, talent, and moderators, in collaboration with the Inc

Cultivate and manage an ongoing contact list for speaker outreach, establishing new relationships with buzz-worthy, high-potential companies, founders, and business leaders

Provide weekly updates on programming and speaker recruitment to the Editorial Director

Hire and manage freelance programming and speaker handling help as needed

Create and maintain a detailed run of show for each event, working closely with the events team on logistics and flow

Prepare and/or edit relevant text and overview documents for marketing materials, including program overviews, session descriptions, format descriptions, and other required information

Collaborate with sales, consumer marketing, and MVLive to balance editorial and custom programming, generating ideas to expand curated programming in revenue-generating ways, including partnership, sponsorship opportunities, and activations at tentpole events

Create new events and programming to attract and engage younger business audiences, curating programming on topics such as AI, the future of work, and the future of capitalism

Collaborate with editorial teams to identify story threads for programming, potential guest speakers, and live journalism opportunities for special editorial projects

Work with the Editorial Director, art, photo, and design teams to elevate the look and feel of events, creating a more engaging brand aesthetic

Produce session titles and descriptions for all events and ensure that event websites are consistent with Inc

Participate in post-event debriefs, brainstorming ways to improve attendee experiences and build on the Inc
