Job Description
Responsible for managing and directing the day to day operations of the Somos, Inc. office site
Supervise office staff, interns, volunteers and consultants
Develop descriptions for office staff positions and screen candidates for office staff positions
Fulfill the duties and be the back-up for any and all staff
Ensure effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, sponsors, and other constituents
Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
Actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, sponsors, and partnering organizations
Assure fiscal sustainability of the organization including managing the annual budget
Present an annual budget to the board of directors for approval that consists of budget assumptions including revenue and expense projections
Assure timely filing of all required tax returns and other reports
Maintain a file of local, state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to the mission and operations of the organization
Comply with the Nonprofit Organization's Record Keeping Requirements under NYS Law
Serve as Primary Staff for the Board of Directors:
Support a strong Board of Directors: serve as ex-officio to the board of directors
Under the direction of the Somos, Inc. Board of Directors, organize the agenda for meetings and retreats
Responsible for executing the decision made by the Board of Directors
Present monthly activity reports to the Board of Directors
Attend all regular and special meetings of the Board of Directors
Provide assistance to all of the Board of Director's Committees
Identify and research issues for the Board of Directors
Plan and execute the operations of the organization in accordance with the bylaws and policies of the Board of Directors
Develop and present to the Board of Directors a strategy for accomplishing the organization's objectives
SOMOS, Inc. Conferences:
Under the direction and supervision of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director shall organize, coordinate and implement the schedule of events and activities for an Annual Somos Spring Conference in Albany and for an Annual Fall/Winter Conference.
Shall work in collaboration with the NYS Assembly & Senate Puerto Rican and Hispanic Task Force to coordinate legislative workshops
Shall keep the Board of Directors informed on the progress of organizing and coordinating the Spring and Winter Conference
Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Registration process and procedures for both the Spring and Winter Conference
Responsible for monitoring the finances and budget for both the Spring and Winter Conferences and submitting requested financial reports to the Board of Directors
Responsible for organizing and coordinating the design, implementation and distribution of written materials pertaining to both the Spring and Winter Conference, including but not limited to Gala Journal, posters, flyers, conference pamphlets
Fundraising and Communication:
Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations
Research grant opportunities and prepare grant proposals as directed by the Board of Directors
Develop corporate partners and sponsors for current projects, including identifying sponsors for the annual Spring and Fall/Winter Conferences
Design, develop and implement fund raising proposals for the organization
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications-from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
Design and create Press Releases to the media and following-up of such Press Releases
Use external presence and relationships to gamer new opportunities
OTHER TASKS AND DUTIES
Begin to build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the sponsors, and political and community leaders
Responsible for the design and implementation of sponsorship packages
Develop an external local, regional and State presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the continued growth of the program
Responsible for organizing and establishing a Somos, Inc. Library that contains written materials on the history and current activities of Somos, Inc.
A preferred advanced degree, with at least 5 years of management experience; track record of effectively leading projects or other organizationsUnwavering commitment to the purposes and goals of the organization including the performance of quality programs and program evaluationExcellence in organizational management with the ability to set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget; Past success working with a Board of Directors body with ability to cultivate board member relationships Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders; Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skillsAction-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planningAbility to work effectively with diverse groups of people integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self- directedProficiency in Microsoft Office 360, Excel, Power Point and Publisher a must Benefits Package
