ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented GIS Technician to join their Network Underground Services (NUS) team in Atlanta, GA. This hybrid role requires a strong background in AutoCAD and GIS, with a focus on designing, creating, and maintaining underground network drawings and specification documents. The GIS Technician will play a pivotal role in supporting the Network Underground Design Engineer and NUS Test Group by ensuring data accuracy, operational efficiency, and compliance with departmental procedures and company standards. The position involves both office-based and field work, including site visits and coordination with internal teams and external vendors. The ideal candidate will be proactive, safety-focused, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Prioritize and promote safety in all tasks and work environments, leading by example
• Input, process, and maintain underground network data using GIS and AutoCAD tools
• Prepare high-quality design packages and specification drawings for manholes, vaults, and other underground facilities, ensuring compliance with company standards and departmental procedures
• Coordinate with internal departments and external vendors to resolve design and material issues
• Conduct site visits for project assessments, including pre-construction, during construction, and post-construction phases
• Support construction services, project management, and maintenance teams as needed
• Participate in design review meetings and provide oversight and support for engineers and drafters
• Support company design criteria and standardization initiatives to ensure consistency and quality
• Manage permit coordination with municipalities, including the City of Atlanta (COA), Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), and other local agencies
• Submit locate requests using Georgia 811’s online EDEN system
• Create MUTCD-compliant traffic control diagrams and location maps
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all assigned projects
WHAT YOU BRING
• Associate’s degree or Certificate in GIS preferred
• AutoCAD training, experience, or certification required
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and basic GIS knowledge
• Experience in using AutoCAD for design and drafting
• Ability to translate verbal and written information into clear, accurate two-dimensional drawings
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work well in a team environment and build effective relationships with colleagues and external partners
• Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter attitude
• Experience in GIS applications advantageous
• Experience in creating network underground design drawings a plus
• Experience with 3D modeling software such as Civil 3D beneficial
• Familiarity with CYME, permitting processes with COA and GDOT
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and manage workload effectively
