Executive Manager FCC Model Risk & Governance

💰 $4,200 - $6,720 (Est.) 📍 Sydney

Job Description

Executive Manager, Financial Crime Compliance Model Risk & Governance
See yourself in our team

Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) sits within CBA’s Group Risk function and is responsible for setting the strategy, frameworks and oversight that protect the Group from financial crime risks.

A critical component of this accountability is ensuring that FCC owned models are effectively governed, continuously monitored and operating within risk appetite throughout their lifecycle. The Model Risk & Governance function plays a key role in ensuring that financial crime models are well controlled, compliant with Group Model Risk Management frameworks and supported by strong, consistent governance practices.

This includes embedding a disciplined, scalable approach to monitoring, control execution and governance — ensuring models remain fit for purpose in a rapidly evolving financial crime environment.

What your role will involve

As an Executive Manager, you will be a senior leader reporting to the General Manager, Financial Crime Compliance Detection. You will lead a specialist team with end-to-end ownership of model governance, controls and ongoing compliance for FCC owned models. This role is accountable for ensuring that all required controls are executed effectively, model performance and risks are actively monitored, and timely action is taken when issues arise.

You will play a key role in industrialising model governance practices, establishing strong operating rhythms, consistent processes and clear accountability across the model lifecycle.

You will also ensure alignment to CBA’s Model Risk Management Framework, including fit-for-purpose reviews, model risk assessments and ongoing compliance obligations, while building strong partnerships with the central Model Governance function. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong execution focus, deep understanding of model risk and the ability to embed structure, discipline and continuous improvement across an established team.

On any given day, you will

Lead and develop a team of model risk and governance specialists, embedding strong ownership, accountability and risk culture

Own and execute ongoing control frameworks for FCC owned models, ensuring all required monitoring and governance activities are performed consistently

Monitor model performance, limitations and emerging risks, including drift, effectiveness and stability, and take action where required

Ensure models remain compliant with Group Model Risk Management frameworks, including fit-for-purpose reviews and model risk assessments

Establish and drive consistent governance rhythms, including regular reviews, reporting cycles and escalation pathways

Identify breakdowns or weaknesses in controls and drive timely remediation and uplift actions

Maintain and uplift model governance processes, methodologies and documentation to improve scalability and consistency

Partner closely with the central Model Governance team to ensure alignment and effective engagement across governance forums

Provide clear and actionable risk reporting and insights to FCC leadership and governance committees

Support internal audit, Line 3 assurance and regulatory reviews, ensuring all outputs are robust, consistent and audit-ready

Act as a key point of contact for model governance matters across FCC, analytics and assurance stakeholders

We’re interested in hearing from people who have

Significant experience in model risk management, governance or control execution, ideally within Financial Crime, Risk or Analytics environments

Deep understanding of model lifecycle governance, monitoring and control frameworks, including regulatory expectations

Proven ability to operationalise and scale governance processes, driving consistency, discipline and efficiency

Experience monitoring model performance, identifying issues and driving remediation actions in complex environments

Strong understanding of CBA (or equivalent) Model Risk Management frameworks, including fit-for-purpose reviews and risk assessments

Demonstrated leadership capability, including building and uplifting high-performing specialist teams

Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across model owners, analytics teams and governance functions

Excellent communication skills, particularly in risk reporting, escalation and governance forums

From here, the opportunities are endless

This is a highly visible and critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the ongoing integrity, effectiveness and compliance of FCC’s model landscape.

You will play a key role in embedding disciplined, scalable model governance practices, ensuring models continue to operate as intended and remain aligned to regulatory expectations.

The role offers strong exposure across FCC, analytics and enterprise model governance functions, with the opportunity to shape how the Group monitors, governs and continuously improves its financial crime detection capability at scale.
