At Commonwealth Bank, our purpose is to build a brighter future for all by delivering better outcomes for our customers, communities and economy.

Retail Banking Services (RBS) is the Retail Banking division of CommBank, delivering a seamless banking experience for the future, to over 10 million customers. It offers market-leading products and services including home and personal lending, general insurance, and deposits and wealth solutions among others, which are supported by some of the world’s best systems and processes.

See yourself in our team

The RBS Portfolio Management and Optimisation team exists to ensure that RBS has the strategy, portfolio, and processes in place to deliver the Group’s vision and enable RBS’s ambitions. It does this by optimising the allocation of delivery capacity and change investment via orchestration of effective planning and prioritisation, and management of delivery performance.

Our team seeks to improve strategic planning processes, performance oversight and scaled agile ways of working. We are actively involved in shaping the future of change management at the Group, including design and implementation of tooling and AI enabled processes.

You’ll be part of a culture that values fun, continuous learning and ongoing development, where people are supported to grow and do their best work.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the General Manager of Performance Management within RBS Finance, you’ll be accountable for maximising the value of RBS’s change investment by orchestrating planning and prioritisation, managing performance against delivery commitments, uplifting planning and scaled agile practices, and enabling safe and compliant delivery of change.

Lead a central team of 5 FTE and the ‘RBS Performance Chapter’ team (Performance Leads) of 25 FTE who are embedded in the RBS teams that they support.

Set Retail Banking Services priorities by running Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) and Annual Operating Planning (AOP), guiding senior leaders on trade‑offs, and directing change investment to where it delivers the most value and risk reduction.

Lead enterprise planning, OKR tracking and performance insights, while building and leading senior teams that improve delivery predictability and execution across Retail.

Run enterprise‑level governance forums and planning cycles, providing clear structure, cadence and decision support for senior leaders.

Deliver decision‑ready performance insights using flow, delivery and risk metrics to spotlight issues and opportunities early.

Identify and address portfolio risks and constraints, unlocking continuous improvement and improving delivery predictability.

Build the Performance function into a trusted advisory capability across portfolio health, delivery effectiveness and workforce planning.

Develop and coach senior leaders, while partnering across Technology, Finance, Risk and Strategy to align priorities and execution.

We’re interested in hearing from people who

Bring extensive experience portfolio management and performance optimisation in agile environments, with a background in program delivery, finance or consulting.

Proven experience running enterprise planning and governance cycles (e.g. QBRs, AOPs), with clear accountability for priority‑setting and executive decision support.

Operate as a trusted advisor on portfolio health and delivery effectiveness, beyond individual initiatives or programs.

Are senior people leaders, with a track record of building, engaging and managing high‑performing teams and aligning cross‑functional stakeholders (Technology, Finance, Risk, Strategy) around shared priorities and execution.

Demonstrated success operating at enterprise scale, influencing prioritisation, investment and delivery across complex portfolios.

Adept in presenting to senior leadership and the board.

Postgraduate qualifications such as an MBA, CA/CPA or CFA are advantageous.
