About the Role
The Executive Officer and Practice Manager provides high-level executive support to the Deputy Secretary and senior executive team within the Office of General Counsel. The role leads and coordinates strategic projects, executive operations and legal practice management to ensure the effective delivery of legal advice and services. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, complex environment, managing sensitive matters and competing priorities while driving continuous improvement.
In this role, you will oversee executive and legal practice processes, manage resources and systems, and support best‑practice governance and operational decision‑making across the Group. You will build strong collaborative relationships across The Cabinet Office, Ministers’ Offices and key stakeholders to ensure timely, high‑quality advice and outcomes.
You will join the Office of General Counsel within The Cabinet Office, a central agency at the heart of NSW Government decision‑making.

We're Looking For
Communication Skills: Ability to provide clear, credible and well‑judged advice to senior executives and engage confidently with Ministers’ Offices and stakeholders on complex matters.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated capacity to analyse complex, sensitive and competing issues, consider broader context, and develop practical, timely solutions.
Project Management: Experience leading and coordinating strategic projects, improving systems, processes and governance to support effective service delivery.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to work across diverse teams, influence outcomes and support an integrated approach to legal and executive operations.
Legal and Governance Capability: Sound understanding of government legal environments, legal practice management or governance frameworks, with the ability to support high‑quality and consistent legal service delivery.
Manage and Develop People: Capability to lead, support and develop staff, set clear expectations, and create a culture of accountability, collaboration and resilience.
