DSIEE leads UNSW’s efforts in making positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice and driving engagement activities that enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.

Why your Role Matters
Working closely with the Vice-President (DSIEE), your role takes a strategic and holistic overview of the Division’s communications output across UNSW’s message- Progress for All ensuring consistent approach that aligns with divisional priorities.

You’ll provide strategic advice on internal and external policies, leveraging data and analytics to inform decisions and drive innovation in our communications spanning publications, web content and communications materials on diverse topics, including policy, sustainability, social cohesion and equity across key initiatives driven by UNSW such as housing, AI and health related.

You’ll be working collaboratively with staff across UNSW, as well as external stakeholders, to advance UNSW’s Societal Impact Framework, ensuring the operations, strategies and governance of the Division are consistent and aligned. As a strong communicator and talented writer, you will bring your practiced influencing and relationship building skills to drive the projects and activities that further the Division’s efforts in highlighting UNSW’s mission to make positive and lasting impact on society.

Support the DSIEE Office across a wide range of university and divisional priorities.
Creating material on an array of topics, including higher education policy, access and equity for our partners, stakeholders, media, and external and internal communications.
Provide strategic advice in relation to internal and external policy application, identifying areas for improvement and innovation
Managing projects aligned with the Division, ensuring a coordinated aligned with the objectives and strategies of UNSW.
Ensuring the operations, strategies and businesses of the Division are consistent with the overarching Strategy of the University
The Executive Officer reports to the Office of Societal Impact, Equity & Engagement and has no direct reports.


Skills and Experience
You will hold a relevant qualification, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience across the area of Societal Impact, ideally within higher education, to comfortably operate autonomously in this role, alongside:

Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with demonstrated expertise in writing and producing publications, web content and communications materials.
Superior networking and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence.
Significant demonstrated experience in a high performing team in a large, complex organisation.
Ability to apply judgement, creativity and flexibility to generate new and innovative ideas and approaches and to solve complex problems.
High level organisational skills with proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Advanced level of computer literacy, working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft 365, Visio, social channels and platforms.
