Christchurch is growing in both residential and commercial spaces. Multi-unit housing continues to rise, and at the same time, our commercial capability has been recognised nationally, with CCC selected as the one-stop consenting authority for supermarket developments across Aotearoa. This growth means more projects, more complexity, and a greater need for experienced Building Inspectors to ensure quality, compliance, and public safety for our communities.

It's not just carrying out inspections, you will also be delivering professional advice and educating the industry on how and why we adhere to the Building Act. You will be responsible for:

Complete timely, accurate and concise site reports and records of site inspections in a professional and consistent manner
Verify that the construction project reflects the approved consent documents and details approval
Providing advice and/or resolving building issues from a building inspection perspective, liaising with other sections of Council as appropriate.
Resolving customer enquiries and complaints
Ensuring your knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations, and Code is up to date.

We have opportunities in both the residential and commercial space for Building Inspectors that can step in and make an impact straight away. We are looking for people who have:

A Regulation 18 Qualification, either completed or part way through completion. Please check if you meet this requirement here.
Under National BCA Competency Assessment as being at least Res 1.
Ability to make appropriate decisions with regard to the building code performance clauses, using sound judgement, comprehensive research & clear reporting techniques

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent
Location - Our inspectors have a work vehicle and go to site from home, however their office space is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities wihtin the team.
