About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Expert Podiatrist to join our team in this established role.

The Expert Podiatrist (High Risk Foot) will provide specialist podiatry care and expert clinical advice for people with complex foot conditions, with a focus on high-risk patients including those with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, and foot ulceration.

This pivotal position requires an advanced level of clinical expertise in the prevention, assessment, and management of high-risk foot complications to ensure optimal outcomes across a range of clinical environments.

Working closely with the multidisciplinary diabetes and vascular teams you will lead the podiatry management of patients with complex and chronic presentations. This includes contributing to limb preservation efforts and supporting care pathways that reduce hospital admissions and improve long-term mobility and quality of life.

While the primary focus of this role is the outpatient setting, you will also provide expert support and advice to podiatrists and other clinicians managing high-risk patients in inpatient and community settings across the region.

Non-clinical responsibilities include leadership in service development, clinical pathway design, workforce education and training, and the implementation of quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing high-risk foot services across the district.

This position is based across the Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley District and will require regular attendance at each of the three main sites; Wellington Regional, Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital and Hutt Hospital.

About the Team/Service/Location

There are currently six podiatrists working in the podiatry team works across the Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley District.

This role sits in the Allied Health Outpatient Team which includes podiatrists, physiotherapists, social workers, dietitians all working predominantly in outpatient settings. The team is spread across 4 sites: Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, Kapiti Health Centre and Hutt Hospital. We are a diverse and inclusive team who provide a service to patients and their whānau across predominantly outpatient but also inpatient and community settings.

The role will also work closely with other departments across CCHV including district nursing, orthopaedics, vascular, diabetes and wound care specialist nurses.

About you

At least 6 years clinical podiatry practice, of which 4 years must be in High Risk Foot Podiatry.
Demonstrated specialist clinical skills in assessment and management of the High Risk Foot.
Clinical experience and advanced knowledge in the management of diabetes and vascular disease.
Demonstrated experience in supporting practice development.
Experience working in a highly specialised fast pace multidisciplinary environment.
