The Eye Bank Statewide Manager is a crucial role that combines specialist medical knowledge, leadership and a sensitive approach. This position oversees the entire eye banking process, from donor identification and consent to tissue procurement, processing, and distribution for transplantation and research processing, and distribution for transplantation and research purposes. Additional the manager ensures compliance with relevant regulations, maintains high standards of quality, and fosters collaboration with medical professionals and bereaved families, requiring a mature and ethical approach.
About the role:
Reporting to the Division Head, SAPOM and the Head of Unit, Ophthalmology, some of your duties as the Eye Bank Statewide Manager may involve:
Contributing to the efficient provision of a cost effective and competent eye baking service.
Utilising a systematic and scientifically competent approach to assess and locate suitable potential donors, including contributing to the assessment of a range of factors that influence, limit or support the identification of potential donors.
Liaising with clinical staff to provide timely and accurate information relating to the availability and suitability to donor sclera and corneas, including completing documentation in accordance with the relevant policies.
Please note: This position is multi-classed as either RN3 or MeS3 and classification will be determined by qualifications and experience.
About you:
(MeS3) - Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent.
(RN3) - Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold a current practicing certificate.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups, including liaising in a sensitive and empathetic manner with families and/or caregivers in times of bereavement.
Experience in initiating, leading and managing significant programs and activities that deliver person-centred service provision associated with the retrieval, processing, storage and distribution of human tissue for transplantation, approved projects and new products whilst operating within a GMP quality framework in a TGA licensed facility.
Significant experience in eye banking services and procedures including the enucleation of eyes and the excision of the cornea, applying aseptic techniques and developing, delivering and providing scientific leadership to complex multidisciplinary projects.
