Facilities and Maintenance Assistant Job Summary
The Facilities Assistant supports the Facilities Coordinator in ensuring that all shelter and program locations are safe, well-maintained, and fully operational. This is a hands-on role that provides building upkeep across multiple facilities, performs basic repairs, assists with janitorial needs, and supports daily facility functions to ensure residents, clients, and staff have a safe and welcoming environment.
Facilities and Maintenance Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day facilities support across all shelter and program buildings.
Respond to maintenance needs in living areas, offices, kitchens, bathrooms, common spaces, and grounds.
Conduct routine walkthroughs to identify safety concerns, damage, or facility needs and report findings promptly.
Perform minor repairs including patching walls, door/lock repairs, basic plumbing fixes, light electrical tasks, and general facilities work.
Assist with installation and setup of furniture, equipment, and supplies.
Support seasonal needs such as snow salt, weatherproofing, and exterior upkeep.
Assist with light cleaning tasks when needed (trash removal, spill response, sanitizing, restocking supplies)
Help maintain organized, sanitary, and respectful living and service spaces.
Assist with coordinating and meeting vendors and contractors on-site.
Help track maintenance requests and follow up on completion.
Transport supplies, donations or equipment between locations when needed.
Support basic safety inspections and report hazards immediately.
Help uphold agency safety standards and confidentiality within shelter environments.
Assist with fire drills and other safety-related checks.
Respond to urgent facility matters as they arise.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Provide evening and weekend coverage as scheduled or needed.
Facilities and Maintenance Qualifications
Experience in maintenance and repair work, facilities, shelter operations, or building services preferred
Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to address facility needs.
Ability to work and travel across multiple locations and respond to needs as they arise
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment as needed (up to approximately 50 lbs).
Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
Reliable, responsive, and able to prioritize urgent needs.
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
