Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Operates, diagnoses and maintains various building systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), fire safety equipment, water treatment systems, electrical and some plumbing systems and emergency power. Maintain the building and grounds of various Regional locations through landscaping, housekeeping, and snow and ice removal. Assigns and checks the work of others assigned to their team.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Completion and Certification of College Program – Building Environmental System (BES) required

OR Completion of an Apprenticeship Program from a recognized College or Trade school as a Facilities Technician Level 3 (Trade Code 255B) or as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) (Trade Code 433A) or an equivalent trade may be considered.

Additional courses in electrical, plumbing and other technical areas such as building automation systems (BAS) are an asset.

Certified as a Gas Fitter 2 or 3 is considered an asset.

The following training courses, licenses and certifications are preferred and/or must be completed upon hire (1st year) and kept up to date where applicable;

Bio hazardous Spill Response training;

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) training;

Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid;

Forklift Operating training;

Lockout/tag out training; and

Working at heights training.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3 years working experience in Facilities Maintenance required as described above.

OR 8000 hours of on-the-job and in-school training as a Facilities Technician Level 3 (Trade Code 255B) or Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) (Trade Code 433A) Apprentice is an alternative.

Must have a good understanding and knowledge of emergency procedures.

Must possess a working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, gas fired boilers, chillers and compressors.

Must possess working knowledge of computer software programs including; Microsoft Outlook, myFinance, Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Central Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other relevant computer systems.

Knowledgeable about Building and Fire Codes, the provincial Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA), and various Legislation, Regulations, Acts and Codes such as WHMIS, Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), etc.

SKILLS

Must be able to work without direct supervision.

Must be able to communicate effectively with service contractors, trades people and staff.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to maintain a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class "G" license for the class of the vehicle operated.

Shift Information

This position is subject to Overtime and Stand-by work.
