The Opportunity:
This is a meaningful opportunity to join the Family Based Care (FBC) team as an Assessment Worker, where your work will directly support the safety, wellbeing and stability of children and young people. In this role, you will undertake assessments of prospective General Foster Carers and Specific Child Only carers, using a therapeutic, trauma‑informed framework that recognises the complex experiences of children in care.
Working closely with Case Managers, you will contribute to building carers’ capability and confidence, ensuring they are well prepared to meet the needs of children in placement. While your main role will be to manage assessments within legislative, contractual and organisational requirements, balancing quality practice with clear timeframes and accountability, Assessment Worker may have a small case load providing therapeutic case management support to approved carers.
You will also play an active role in carer engagement, training and recruitment, maintain accurate case records, and represent the organisation through strong partnerships with internal teams and external stakeholders. This is a collaborative role for a practitioner who values reflective practice, professional integrity and child‑centred outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a highly passionate professional who:
Holds a degree or tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services or relevant equivalent – essential
Has demonstrated experience working with children and young people under Guardianship, and an understanding of statutory child protection frameworks
Brings sound assessment skills, with experience in undertaking structured assessments within an established framework
Applies a trauma‑informed, therapeutic approach when working with carers, children and families, including responding to crisis and complex needs
Communicates clearly and confidently, with strong written, verbal, interpersonal and negotiation skills
Is organised and self‑directed, able to manage competing priorities while meeting strict timelines and compliance requirements
Has experience facilitating or contributing to training, group work or information sessions
Values teamwork and collaboration, contributing positively to a multidisciplinary environment and interagency partnerships
Demonstrates a commitment to social justice principles, child safety, and culturally safe, inclusive practice
You Will Need To:

Hold or are willing to obtain a current Safe Environments Certificate
Undergo pre-employment testing as part of the recruitment process
Hold a current unencumbered Australian driver’s licence and be willing to drive
Undertake rostered on-call responsibilities as needed
Willing to work occasional flexible hours to meet operational requirements
Some intrastate and interstate travel may be required
