The Opportunity:
PRI Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Field and Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic and growing team in Peterborough. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who thrives both on site and in a laboratory environment. You’ll work within our CCIL-certified lab, supporting geotechnical and materials testing activities for a wide range of infrastructure and development projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Field Testing & Inspection:
• Perform on-site materials testing during construction, including:
• Compaction testing using a nuclear densometer on engineered fill and granular materials.
• Sampling and testing of fresh concrete (slump, air content, temperature, casting cylinders).
• Asphalt placement inspection and sampling, including compaction verification and core collection.
• Conduct field sampling of aggregates, soils, and asphalt in accordance with CCIL and MTO procedures.
• Observe and document placement of construction materials to verify compliance with project specifications.
• Complete detailed field reports, photos, and Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation.
• Coordinate with contractors, utility locators, and subcontractors during testing and inspection.
• Communicate field results and observations to Project Managers in a timely and professional manner.
• Ensure field equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and transported as needed.
• Adhere to site-specific and company Health & Safety procedures at all times.
Laboratory Testing
• Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with CCIL and MTO standards for:
• Asphalt: Gradation analysis, extraction testing, bulk density, air voids, Marshall or Superpave tests.
• Soils: Moisture content, Proctor compaction, Atterberg limits, grain size distribution.
• Aggregates: Sieve analysis, Microdeval, Proctor Analysis
• Concrete: Compressive strength testing.
• Maintain organized records, worksheets, and data files in accordance with lab quality management systems.
• Assist with laboratory equipment calibration and routine maintenance.
• Input and review test data; support preparation of formal reports.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Service Technician.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
• Strong time management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to adapt to challenges.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations.
• Have a valid drivers license in the jurisdiction of employment
• Have a vehicle to travel to project sites
