Position Purpose: The Field Conservation Technician is responsible for assisting with various conservation projects, field research, data analysis, developing education materials, and public outreach to support the Field Conservation programs. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

Project Description: This position will assist with fieldwork and data organization for the Zoo's . Tasks may include, but are not limited to, assisting with capture and release surveys, upkeep of acoustic monitoring stations, acoustic data collection and processing, visual emergence surveys, data entry and review, delivering outreach through presentations or events, and other related tasks as assigned.

Core Role Responsibilities:

Provides assistance with various conservation projects related as directed by the Supervisor or Coordinator.
Conducts field research, compiles and analyzes research data, and reports on results.
Provides assistance with the program resources and educational materials related to the conservation projects.
May involve some basic husbandry.
Delivers public outreach such as presentations and workshops.
Provides assistance with funding and grant proposals and report writing.
Provides regular updates to the Supervisor and Coordinator.
Follows all policies and branch instructions.
Attends appropriate training as required.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:

Must have a completed at least 1 year of a post-secondary degree/diploma related to the field (e.g. wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, etc.), or the equivalent amount of training and related experience.
Must have a minimum 6 months of proven related experience in the same or similar position.
Knowledge of Ontario bats or reptile and amphibians is an asset, particularly safe handling practices and call identification.
Must have proven, strong organizational skills.
Willing to work in challenging outdoor conditions (e.g. biting insects, inclement weather, etc.).
Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire and upon renewal.
Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation an asset.
An asset to possess an unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of Ontario, along with a good driving record.
Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems.
Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
