Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is one of Australia's largest providers of Aboriginal healthcare. Our team provides remote health services and support to over 10,000 people across East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.
The Role
As a Midwife or Women's Health Nurse, you will work closely with our Aboriginal workforce at Malmaldharra Health Centre.
You will provide high-quality, culturally appropriate care to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Your Key Responsibilities
Work in partnership with the Aboriginal Health workforce to deliver antenatal and postnatal care to clients from Milingimbi community.
Provide women's health checks, including pap smears and STI screening.
Assist women with family planning education and contraceptive options.
Prepare clients for relevant Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS) recalls on Communicare.
Develop effective interagency partnerships, such as with Gove and Darwin Hospitals, to ensure continuity of care for clients.
Generate referral lists from Communicare across specialist areas and maintain a database for each specialist area to track assessments, treatments, and follow-on referrals.
Deliver culturally inclusive quality healthcare to individuals, families, and the community within your level of competency and across agreed procedures and protocols.
Provide high-quality emergency care, which may involve independent practice with telephone support.
Contribute to the provision of a 24-hour service to Malmaldharra Health Centre clients by undertaking after-hours on-call services.
Follow up on medications, treatments, or other procedures under the direction of the treating doctor.
Collaborate with stakeholders to develop education programs and materials for antenatal, birth, and postnatal education.

Requirements
An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.
An understanding of the issues faced by Yolngu people living in remote settings.
Current registration and annual practicing certificate as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
A minimum of 5 years' broad nursing/midwifery experience post-registration and 3 years working as a remote area nurse with experience in Women's Health preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of Primary Health Care principles and program delivery in a Primary Health Care setting.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of social determinants of health
