General Summary We have a great opportunity for Finance Controller India to join our Accounting team based in Mumbai. This position is responsible for managing the accounting departments in India and ensuring accounting records are kept in accordance with US GAAP and local accounting standards. Additionally, the Finance Controller is responsible for ensuring the company is meeting its local tax compliance obligations. This position is also responsible for managing the accounting staff including, but not limited to, helping to determine the staffing needs of the department, training and development, work assignments, reviewing assigned work for completeness and accuracy, giving performance reviews, etc. The Finance Controller India will report functionally to the Asia Regional Controller. Primary Responsibilities • Accounting and Internal Controls • Ensure all transactions are recorded in the general ledger following US GAAP and statutory account rules • Support complete and timely compliance with various local requirements, including, but not limited to, bank reporting, statutory financial statements and corresponding audit, government registrations, documenting for IFC, etc. • Responsible for implementing and maintaining internal controls around Accounts Payable (Procure to Pay), Accounts Receivable (Order to Cash), Financial Reporting (Plan to Report), Capital Asset and Inventory Management, and Payroll to ensure complete and accurate recording of transactions in the company's financial and management systems • Follows corporate accounting policies and reporting schedule, including ensuring complete, timely, and accurate account balances, classifications, and reconciliations for month-end and year-end close • Maintains current documentation of accounting processes and internal controls • Monitors and analyzes variances in the general ledger to be able to explain changes between periods and actual to budget • Drives consistency in the utilization of accounting systems such as JD Edwards, Insight, TM1, BlackLine, LeaseQuery, etc. • Identify and communicate statutory accounting updates to the Asia Regional Controller • Tracks and ensures accurate accounting for capital expenditures • Participate in physical asset counts, as needed • Tax Compliance • Partners with external tax professionals to ensure timely, accurate tax filings and to maintain a working knowledge statutory tax compliance requirements and application • Oversee the preparation of tax-related prepared by client schedules in support of the annual compliance activities to ensure accuracy and completeness • Ensure local tax compliance in payroll and transaction taxes, such as VAT, GST, etc. • Manage transfer pricing compliance and monitor adherence to target benchmarks for related party transactions across the region • Business Partner • Partner with the functional and business leaders to support, develop, and achieve annual operating plans • Liaise with regional commercial and FP&A leadership on matters pertaining to credit and collections and other pertinent matters • Liaise with regional procurement and FP&A leadership on matters pertaining to purchasing, receiving, and other pertinent matters • Supports annual renewal of insurance contracts and claim handling • Liaise with business and functional leaders to identify, analyze and explain, where needed, the accounting implications of everyday business decisions • Management • Manage Indian accounting team, including general ledger, tax, credit & collections, and accounts payable associates • Conduct performance reviews of staff and oversee their training and development to ensure they have development plans that contribute to their personal growth • Frequently meets with staff to discuss goals and provide feedback and coaching • Effectively select, onboard, and train new associates, as needed • Reinforce company values within the team, build team morale and cohesion • Identify opportunities for improvement within the function and work with the Asia Regional Controller to implement process improvements Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Rules and statutory accounting rules in India • JD Edwards experience required; experience with BlackLine reconciliation software preferred • Must have strong, intuitive knowledge of accounting systems and ability to navigate and problem solve through technology • Fluency in English required, including accounting/business terminology • Proven ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion • Process & detail oriented, problem-solving mentality, and ability to do cause-and-effect analysis • Strong written and oral communication skills • Ability to work with global teams Education and Experience • Chartered Accountant, or equivalent. • 5+ years of experience working in a similar role at a multi-national corporation, or 3+ years in public accounting working on multi-national audits
