The Opportunity:
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious Finance Manager to make a significant impact within a newly formed, high-growth business. Having recently separated from a larger organization, we are in the process of building our finance function from the ground up. This role is not just about supporting the day to day management of the Finance team; it's about shaping the future of our financial operations, processes, and strategy.
You’ll work closely with the Finance Director, performing a range of tasks that ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position, for a proactive problem-solver with a passion for automation and efficiency.
We have recently migrated from Sage to Xero and are re-engineering our entire month-end close and reporting processes. For the right individual, this is a chance to step in and be a key architect of a best-in-class finance function, designed to deliver powerful insights that will drive our ambitious business strategy forward. If you are a hands-on, forward-thinking finance professional who thrives on challenge and continuous improvement, with a passion for automation and efficiency, this role is for you.
Role Overview:
As Finance Manager, you will report directly to the Finance Director and take full ownership of the day-to-day operational finance function. You will be a crucial partner to the FD, managing upwards to ensure strategic alignment while being deeply involved in the detail to troubleshoot issues and drive improvements.
This is a true ‘all round’ Finance Manager role. You will manage and mentor a Finance Associate, who currently oversees accounts receivable. In our small, agile team, everyone gets involved. You will initially have hands-on responsibility for accounts payable using Moss, with the goal of developing the Finance Associate to take on more of this remit over time. Your primary mission is to establish robust, audit-ready processes, automate routine tasks, and transform financial data into actionable insights that empower the business.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Control
Own the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Develop a new, insightful management accounting pack post-Xero implementation.
Assist our audit partners to prepare statutory financial statements and ensure regulatory compliance in all jurisdictions (including UK & USA).
Conduct thorough reviews and reconciliations of all key balance sheet accounts.
Manage the VAT return preparation and submission process.
Maintain the fixed asset register and reconcile bank accounts.
Business Partnering & Performance Analysis
Analyse and report on the financial performance for the CloudM division, providing commercial challenge and business partnering support to its leadership and department managers
Further develop and monitor financial KPIs that align with the company's strategic goals.
Perform monthly variance analysis, comparing actual results to budget and forecast, and providing clear commentary.
Work closely with the Finance Director on cashflow optimisation, profitability analysis, and enhancing tax efficiency.
Support the FD with financial modelling for budgeting and forecasting.
Team & Process Development
Manage, mentor, and develop the Finance Associate.
Oversee and initially manage the Accounts Payable and Receivable functions, ensuring effective invoicing and cash flow management.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement, constantly seeking to streamline workflows and enhance financial efficiency through automation.
Design and implement robust financial policies and controls that ensure we are "audit-ready" and can confidently meet investor scrutiny.
Payroll & Ad Hoc Projects
Manage the end-to-end payroll process and reporting, collaborating with the People team to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Act as a key partner to the Finance Director on high-impact strategic projects, such as building and improving business models and supporting M&A analysis.
Coordinate with external auditors and ensure all tax compliance requirements are met.
Skills and Experience:
Key Skills
A qualified / part qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
Demonstrable experience in managing month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and statutory reporting.
Hands-on, with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude and a willingness to be involved in the detail.
A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a passion for process improvement and automation.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage upwards, collaborate across functions, and communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
Experience overseeing AP/AR functions, payroll, and coordinating audits
Advanced Excel/Google Sheet skills and strong analytical skills
Desirable Skills
Experience with Xero
If you know the startup and/or scale up space, it’s a plus
Experience with SaaS
Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
