Location – Oxfordshire area – currently home based although easy access to Oxfordshire (Harwell) once lab established.
Salary circa £75,000 pro rata plus share options
MitoRx Therapeutics is an exciting biotech company based in Oxford and Exeter, developing revolutionary mitochondrial-protective therapeutics to arrest the decline in muscular dystrophy, metabolic, inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.
MitoRx is now looking to recruit an experienced part time Financial Controller to support the company through its next stage of development as it looks to establish lab operations in Oxford and move its lead compounds through into clinical trials.
Responsibilities
As the Financial Controller, you’ll have full oversight of the accounting function with the support of the management team. Within this position the ideal candidate will be involved with the broad spectrum of financial activities of an SME, from financial and management reporting, cash management and forecasting, data room population, tax and statutory reporting and designing and implementing processes to ensure the smooth running of operations. Bookkeeping support is partly externally provided. Duties will include:
· Work closely with the CEO and SMT members to develop and execute the financial strategy of the business.
· Support fundraising activities as required, including preparing detailed financial projections for financing rounds, populating the data room and leading activity and capital equipment cost-estimation efforts.
· Establish strong relationships with stakeholders; colleagues, shareholders and external professional advisors to provide financial services.
· Lead the delivery of financial information including to Boar, preparation of management and statutory accounting and provide robust forecasting / budgeting.
· Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including reclaiming of R&D tax credits and fulfilment of VAT and PAYE / NI obligations.
· Develop business processes to ensure efficient purchasing, including payment of trade creditors and other expenses.
· Support other business activities which could encompass, banking & treasury, Insurance, company secretarial and HR.
Qualifications
· Fully qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with significant post qualification experience and technical knowledge.
· Excellent communicator and ability to develop good working relationships with internal & external stakeholders.
· Experience of working in a biotech / high-growth environment with a hands-on self-starter approach.
· Good IT knowledge, ideally with knowledge of Xero accounting software.
