The Financial Controller will be accountable for all accounting, external reporting / compliance and day to day financial operations (Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable / Credit Control) while helping build an automated and scalable finance function. Initially the remit will be for the UK and is expected to expand to include accountability for the US subsidiary and group / consolidated accounts.
Reporting to the Finance Director, who has overall responsibility for the finance function at TympaHealth, you will be managing two direct reports and liaising with outsourced US accounting / tax support.
This role will be critical for delivering effective, efficient and scalable financial operations as the Company grows, and in elevating finance to better support business decisions and the formulation / execution of strategic plans.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Management: Managing the Assistant Accountant and Credit Controller.
General Ledger / Accounting: Managing the month-end close and balance sheet control; year-end close and audit.
Accounts Receivable: Overseeing all aspects, including customer billing / invoicing, credit control and ensuring timely and high-quality responses to customer queries.
Accounts Payable / Working Capital: Overseeing all aspects of Accounts Payable and supporting the Finance Director with treasury / cash management.
External Reporting: Ensuring compliant filing with HMRC (then also the IRS and US state authorities).
Other duties as assigned by the Finance Director.
Your Profile
You are a fully qualified and chartered ICAEW (ACA) or ACCA accountant with experience leading the month-end close, exposure to external audit and prior line management responsibility. You are comfortable in a fast-paced startup or scaleup environment and have a demonstrated interest in process improvement, automation and leveraging technology. Familiarity with subscription billing models is also preferred.
Essential Requirements
Technical:
Fully qualified chartered accountant (ACA or ACCA preferred).
Strong working experience of applying accounting standards (FRS 102 preferred), preparing statutory financial statements and external audit.
Solid knowledge and experience of UK VAT compliance.
Practical experience of and exposure to external audit and experience preparing statutory financial statements.
Ownership of month-end close for an entity or major area across a group, including responsibility for balance sheet control.
Responsibility for finance operations including Accounts Receivable and Credit Control.
Excellent Excel skills.
Experience using Xero (preferred) or a comparable cloud-based accounting system.
Soft Skills:
Previous line management responsibility of at least one direct report.
High level of aptitude; strong process / system thinking.
Concise and professional communication style.
Positive, proactive mindset and ability to manage competing priorities.

Desirable Skills/Experience
Experience with subscription billing processes and tooling.
Previous responsibility for managing high volume / complex billing.
Experience resolving complex customer queries and communicating directly with external customers.
Knowledge of what lean, effective Accounts Payable processes look like.
Track record of improving processes in a growing or changing business.
Exposure to US external reporting / compliance.
Experience preparing consolidated group accounts.
