Financial Controller – Renewable Energy (City of London)

Job Summary:

An exciting opportunity has arisen at a leading UK renewable energy firm for an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller. The candidate will support the Finance Director in overseeing all financial activities within the organisation. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, effective budgeting, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant with strong leadership skills and will contribute to senior-level decision-making.

About the Company

The Company is one of the leading Commercial and Industrial solar generators in the UK with a portfolio of over 200MW, providing energy to some of the UK’s best-known companies. The Company is backed by a major global investment firm, supporting its ambition of becoming the leading solar generator in Europe by 2030.

This will be the fourth hire in the finance team, which consists of a Finance Director, Fund Accountant and Accounts Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee of the TopCos by managing and supporting the internal fund accountant and ensure adherence to various reporting deadlines.
• Assist our investors on all financial matters including monthly reporting.
• Oversee the assistant accountant in managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and receipts.
• Oversee a portfolio of SPVs by managing and supporting outsourced external accountants responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of financial records including the timely preparation of management accounts and annual accounts.
• Conduct monthly reviews of internal consolidation including the analysis financial data across multiple entities, generation trends and key insights that impact investor reporting, and coordinating with internal and external asset management team.
• Liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders.
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of quarterly VAT of the VAT groups.
• Act as the primary liaison for all banking matters.
• Support the deal team at the financial due diligence stage for acquisitions and investments.
• Support the Finance Director in preparing and maintaining ongoing compliance and reporting for a variety of debt structures including but not limited to, asset backed securities, revolving credit facilities and project finance.
• Develop internal financial controls and monitor systems for efficiency and accuracy.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management.
• Implement financial systems and software upgrades as required.

Requirements:

Essential:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA).
• Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in a senior financial role.
• Strong knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards.
• Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., Dynamics or similar).

Desirable:
• Experience in Real Assets, Infrastructure or Renewable Energy
• Familiarity with debt reporting obligations (eg project finance, revolving credit facilities etc).
