Job Description
Performance of daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections and preventative maintenance services on numerous sized fire extinguishers and fire fighting hose. Also assist with automatic sprinkler and fire alarm systems, risers, sectional valves, pumps and fire doors.
Replace, repair, fill and tag all fire extinguishers and fire hose in the facility.
Complete electronic and/or hand written inspection reports in a timely manner.
Communicate with customers to assure any system deficiencies re promptly reported and corrected.
Help schedule and complete assigned tasks.
Document time worked and all paperwork relating to assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Service and test.
Be proficient in the use of electric carts, high lifts and scissors lifts.
Be able to work independently and use provided personal protective equipment not limited to fall protection, hearing protection, eye protection and head protection.
Understand and use two way radio communicators.
Inspects, repairs, and maintains fire safety equipment and systems in accordance with applicable fire codes.
Inspects, repairs, and tests fire extinguishers using hand tools, hydrostatic test equipment, and monitoring devices.
Dismantles extinguishers and examines mechanical parts, extinguishing agents, and expelling means; replaces worn or damaged parts.
Cleans extinguishers and recharges them with approved materials.
Inspects, tests, and repairs systems such as smoke detectors, sprinklers, and dry stand pipe systems, and pull systems.
Assists in fire safety inspection.
Knowledge of inspection, repair, maintenance, and testing techniques for fire safety equipment and systems.
Skill in the inspection, repair, maintenance, and testing techniques for fire safety equipment and systems
Responds to fire alarms with Fire Company.
Performs overall operations as needed at all fire, rescue and emergency scenes.
Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of division facilities.
Washes, cleans, repairs, polishes and tests equipment and apparatus.
Performs tests on pumps, hoses, breathing apparatus and other equipment.
Is subject to emergency call duty as part of the regular duties whether on or off duty.
May be assigned duties as acting point.
Attends company drills and scheduled in-service training exercises.
Participates as required in all drills and training sessions involving both practical and classroom applications.
Drives and operates fire apparatus including engines, pumps and other specialized equipment.
Monitors the condition of motor and unit during operation and makes necessary adjustment or reports defects.
Operates extrication and other specialized tools.
Prepares for pumping operations by seeing that hydrant connections are made. Pumps water to fire at designated pressure.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
May be assigned to other locations based upon operational needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
