Here’s what you’ll be up to…
The City Activation, Community and Place Department is delivering a range of initiatives that aim to strengthen relationships with First Nations communities and embed cultural capability across Council’s work. We are seeking a First Nations Project Officer to support this important program of work.
Reporting to the First Nations Program Manager, this role will assist in the development and delivery of Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan and contribute to initiatives that support stronger partnerships with the local First Nations community and organisations. The position will also provide support to the Muru Murak Interagency, assist with the development of cultural protocols, and contribute to the delivery of Council’s Caring for Country programs.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, local Elders, community members and First Nations organisations, the First Nations Project Officer will support culturally respectful engagement, support community initiatives and contribute to projects that recognise culture, strengthen community connections and promote shared understanding across Penrith.

What are we looking for?
In this role, we are looking for someone who:
Must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Person; must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and be accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person in the community in which they live (this is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977).
Qualification in community development, social science (such as Aboriginal studies, arts, culture, communication, policy) or a related field at a tertiary level
Demonstrated experience of community work that focuses on processes driven by social justice and positive impact.
Demonstrated confident verbal communicator with strong networking skills and an ability to communicate across a range of audiences.
Excellent written skills including the writing of reports and correspondence.
Proactive contributor to a positive team culture and a strong team player.
Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
Current Class C driver license.

You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied.
Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, to progress through the recruitment process.
