Join Auckland Council’s Pools and Leisure team as a Fitness Specialist, where you’ll lead the delivery of high-quality fitness and group fitness programmes across our network of pool and leisure centres. This is a strategic role that sets the direction of our fitness service offering, supports staff development, and drives community outcomes through inclusive and innovative fitness programming.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert guidance to Fitness Team Leaders and Centre Managers, including coaching, mentoring, and strategic support.

Lead the development and implementation of training, accreditation, and recruitment programmes.

Collaborate with industry partners such as Exercise NZ, Recreation Aotearoa, and education providers.

Drive continuous improvement in customer experience, health and safety practices, and operational procedures.

Advocate for inclusive outcomes, including Te Ao Māori and Rainbow communities.

Manage procurement of fitness assets and equipment in line with council policies.

You’re a passionate leader with a deep understanding of the fitness industry and a commitment to community wellbeing. You thrive on collaboration, innovation, and empowering others to succeed. You bring cultural competency, strategic thinking, and a proactive approach to everything you do.

You’ll have:

A relevant tertiary qualification (Level 5 or equivalent) or 5 years+ experience in fitness leadership.

Current First Aid certificate

Strong digital skills and the ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.

Experience in project management, HSW practices, and continuous improvement.

Confidence in engaging with diverse communities, including Māori and Rainbow communities.

Pay Range: 85 – 100k depends on experience
