Operations Manager – Trailer Maintenance
Reports To: Director of Operations
Department: Maintenance Operations
Location: Multi-Region / Travel Required
Direct Reports: 10–12 Mobile & Regional Trailer Mechanics
Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day maintenance operations for a multi-location trailer service organization. This role oversees mechanic deployment, service order (SO) review and processing, invoicing coordination, timekeeping, quality control, equipment readiness, and personnel performance management. The Operations Manager ensures safe, efficient, and profitable execution of maintenance services while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations, company SOPs, and customer expectations.
This position requires strong operational leadership, technical understanding of 53’ dry van trailer, flatbed, and reefer (not required but a plus) maintenance, and the ability to travel regularly to support field teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Dispatch
Plan and manage daily and weekly mechanic deployment across regions
Balance workload, response times, and travel routing for mobile technicians
Ensure coverage for emergency, PM, and customer-scheduled service calls
Service Order & Invoicing Oversight
Review, approve, and audit service orders for accuracy of labor, parts, and documentation
Ensure compliance with SOPs and inspection standards
Ensure timely processing and submission of invoices
Resolve billing discrepancies and customer disputes
Timekeeping & Payroll Coordination
Approve technician timecards and job coding
Monitor clocked vs billed efficiency
Ensure compliance with company labor policies
Quality Control & Compliance
Conduct QC audits on completed repairs and inspections
Enforce brake, suspension, air, and electrical standards
Ensure DOT compliance and audit readiness
Lead root-cause analysis on rework and failures
Personnel Management
Manage 10–12 technicians
Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and corrective action
Support hiring, onboarding, and training
Enforce safety policies
Equipment & Asset Management
Oversee maintenance of service trucks, tools, and air systems
Coordinate PM schedules
Track asset condition and replacements
Reporting & Analytics
Produce weekly and monthly operational reports
Present metrics to Director of Operations
Travel & Field Support
Travel for audits, training, customer visits, and ride-alongs
Required Qualifications
5+ years in heavy-duty or trailer maintenance operations
Supervisory experience preferred
Strong knowledge of 53’ dry van systems and DOT regulations
Experience with service order, invoicing, and timekeeping systems
Proficient in Excel / reporting tools
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
