Compensation:
• $85,000-$100,000 starting annual salary, depending on experience
• Salary placement expected to trend toward the midpoint of the range
Benefits:

Job Summary:
This position is part of our Culinary Innovation Hub Grab-n-Go Team, which produces a lineup of our most popular signature salads, homemade ready-to-heat entrees, signature wood-fired take-n-bake pizzas, and our award-winning tiramisu dessert. These items are available in grocery stores around the Puget Sound. The FSQA Manager is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the food safety and quality management system at the facility. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the QA and sanitation departments, ensures regulatory compliance, manages internal and external audits, and serves as the primary food safety authority on-site.
The food safety system, including all SQF documentation, HACCP plans, prerequisite programs, and SOPs, has been fully developed and implemented. The FSQA Manager will be expected to maintain, enforce, and improve upon this existing system.
Essential Job Duties:
Food Safety & Quality System Management
• Maintain and continuously improve the SQF food safety and quality management system in compliance with current SQF Code requirements. Keeping systems up to date with edition releases.
• Manage and maintain all HACCP plans, hazard analyses, prerequisite programs, and standard operating procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations (FDA, USDA, WSDA as applicable).
• Conduct and manage root cause analyses and corrective/preventive action plans (CAPAs) for food safety and quality incidents.
• Oversee the allergen management program including label review and approval for regulatory compliance and accurate allergen declarations.
Auditing & Compliance
• Serve as the site SQF Practitioner and primary point of contact for all SQF certification audits
• Plan, coordinate, and lead all external audits including SQF, customer, and regulatory inspections.
• Develop and execute the annual internal audit schedule; conduct internal audits and track findings to closure.
• Manage audit readiness on an ongoing basis; ensure the facility is prepared for unannounced audits at all times.
• Maintain all audit records, certificates, and corrective action documentation.
Team Leadership
• Supervise and develop the QA Technician team and Sanitation team, including scheduling, training, performance management, and career development.
• Provide leadership and direction to the Sanitation Supervisor and Lead Sanitation Technician.
• Ensure all team members are trained on food safety protocols, GMPs, allergen awareness, and their specific job responsibilities.
• Foster a culture of food safety awareness and accountability across all departments.
Vendor & Program Management
• Manage the pest control and waste management, program including vendor relationship, service schedules, monthly reporting, and trend analysis.
• Oversee chemical ordering, approved chemical lists, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) compliance.
• Manage the waste management program including vendor coordination and regulatory compliance.
• Manage calibration services to include, but not limited to, scales and thermometers.
• Coordinate routine lab sample submissions for microbiological and analytical testing; manage lab portal, results review, and out-of-spec investigations.
Communication & Reporting
• Serve as the primary food safety contact for customers, co-manufacturers, regulatory agencies, and third-party auditors.
• Report food safety and quality metrics to leadership on a regular basis.
• Communicate food safety updates, policy changes, and audit results to relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in food safety and/or quality assurance in a food manufacturing environment with minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
• HACCP certification (required).
• PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification (required or must obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Working knowledge of SQF Code requirements; SQF Practitioner certification (required or must obtain within 3 months of hire).
• Must be able to lead the transition of the food safety system to SQF Edition 10, including retraining staff, updating all documentation, and ensuring audit readiness under the new code.
• Strong understanding of FDA & USDA regulations, FSMA, GMPs, and HACCP principles.
• Experience managing audits (SQF, BRC, GFSI-benchmarked schemes, or regulatory) with preference for internal auditor training or certification.
• Current SQF Practitioner certification.
• Bilingual English/Spanish (strongly preferred).
• Familiarity with label compliance and FDA labeling regulations (21 CFR 101) & USDA labeling regulations (9 CFR 317).
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to work while standing and walking for 3 hours without sitting.
• Must be able to kneel, bend down or otherwise inspect low equipment and surfaces without strain.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without undue strain.
• This role mostly focuses on office work with some time on the production floor.
• Must be able to view computer monitors for up to 2 hours at a time.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
• Must have sufficient proficiency with the English language to understand USDA, FDA and other quality and safety compliance regulations in both written and verbal forms.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States of America (USA).
